Santoria is made to be a place for everyone to enjoy regardless of age, race, gender, sexuality, nationality, or disability. Because of this, we need to have a pretty extensive set of rules. Anyone who decides to violate these rules may be subject to a ban. If you believe a member to be in violation of these rules, you can report the user using a ticket on the Discord.
¶ 1. Toxicity, Harassment, and Bullying
Toxicity is defined as actions taken by members that negatively impact the experience of players on the server overall while not always being targeted at a specific player/group.
Harassment/Bullying is the act of one or more players targeting a different player/group.
- 1.1. Do not gloat/taunt other players after they lose a fight or refuse to fight.
- Not everyone knows how to or wants to fight other players. This does not mean you can try and pressure them into fighting anyways, or make them feel “lesser” for not being at the same skill level as you.
Some examples that could fall under this rule: “ez”, “lol X is just hiding”
- 1.2. Do not hang out at other lands with the intent of killing anyone who leaves their PvP shield, or to just otherwise be disruptive.
- If you do not have a valid reason of being in a land's territory, and are not preparing a raid, then you should not be hanging around a land.
Just being in a land when you're not supposed to be can also be disruptive, so if you're just wandering around randomly, it could also potentially fall under this rule.
- 1.3. Do not repeatedly target the same players/groups.
- If you are frequently attacking a specific group of players, especially in a way that significantly impacts their ability to enjoy the server, you are in violation of this rule.
This can include things such as (but is not limited to):
- Having a constant presence over their travel routes
- Raiding their land as frequently as possible
- Tracking a player down whenever they leave their land
- 1.4. Excessively hostile language is not allowed.
- Hostile language includes things such as telling someone to die/commit suicide, using someone's personal trauma against them or in an otherwise harmful way, encouraging or justifying harassment/bullying, or using a physical/mental/developmental disorder in a harmful way whether or not the victim has any disorder mentioned.
- Variations of “kys” including phrases such as “keep yourself safe” are not allowed.
- 1.4.1. Insulting other players based on physical or mental characteristics (such as intelligence or toughness), or implying/stating that nobody likes another player is not allowed, as well as any insults that are excessively profane or vitriolic/angry.
- 1.5. Repeated and serious accusations/name calling of other groups on the basis of being fascists, nazis, pedophiles, etc., especially without evidence are not allowed.
- If you have evidence of players engaging in such behavior, the best thing to do is report the player in question to staff using a ticket.
- 1.6. Being racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or otherwise discriminatory is not allowed.
- Using religion as a reason for exhibiting some sort of discrimination is not valid and does not allow you to violate this rule.
- Using any sort of slur also violates this rule regardless or race, gender, sexual orientation, or other defining traits.
- 1.7. Supporting, downplaying, or denying real-life events or extremist groups is not allowed.
- This includes things such as Nazis, The Holocaust, 9/11, etc.
- 1.8. Do not doxx or DDoS other players.
- Doxxing or DDoSing another player is not only strictly prohibited, but also a crime. Do not do it.
- 2.1 PvP Rules
- 2.1.1. You are always allowed to harm/kill other players as long as you can physically hit them, and you are not violating any other rules.
- If you cannot physically hit someone, you are not allowed to harm or kill them.
- 2.1.2. Repeated spawn killing is not allowed.
- Spawn killing is the act of killing someone without them leaving (or being able to leave) their spawn room/area.
- If a player unnecessarily exits a safe area, such as going back to fight in a raid, then it does not count as spawn killing.
- 2.1.3. You are not allowed to bait other players to hit you for your advantage.
- This includes, but is not limited to:
- Them hitting you first so that killing them counts as self-defense.
- Them hitting you so that they enter combat, allowing you to kill them.
- 2.1.4. Trapping a player in an area they cannot leave is not allowed.
- If building a trap, there must be a clear exit that could be reasonably accessed.
- A hole can easily violate this rule because even if there's no ceiling, it can be incredibly hard, if not impossible, to get out of that hole if even 1 person is guarding it.
- Fall traps (traps where the primary kill or damage mechanism is a player falling) are not allowed inside of claims.
- If a player ends up trapped in a house any player with the ability to must create some sort of temporary exit.
- If you intentionally lure a player into a house, you are using the house as a trap and thus it must follow all trap rules.
- Blocking a tunnel so that a user would have to either turn around or destroy an obstruction is not allowed.
- 2.1.5. If a player you are fighting has their combat timer expire and logs out, you are allowed to camp, but not trap, their logout location.
- Trapping is defined as any modification that would be detrimental to the player as they relog, such as a pit or box around their logout point.
- 2.1.6. Working with another player to change your reputation by killing them repeatedly (aka Rep Farming) is not allowed.
- This applies to both raising and lowering your reputation.
- 2.2. Totem of Holding Rules
- 2.2.1 You cannot fully enclose a protected Totem of Holding
- There must be an easily accessible and obvious exit from any structure built around a Totem of Holding
- 2.2.2. You cannot claim the area around a protected Totem of Holding
- This does not apply if the totem is dropped in an already claimed area.
- 2.2.3. You cannot intentionally cause a player's totem to pop early.
- An example of this would be dropping a player an item then killing them.
- 2.3. Scamming Rules
- 2.3.1. Any trade made must be completed as agreed upon, with both parties then being allowed safe passage away from the trade location.
- This means that you cannot complete a trade then immediately kill the other party.
- 2.3.2. Any contract written in a signed book and quill is valid and staff enforceable as long as the book exists, all contract terms are still met, and it can be reasonably proven both parties agreed to the creation of the book, such as with a chat message.
- A book only counts as existing if either the original, or a copy of the original can be presented in a reasonable time frame.
- 2.3.3. You cannot advertise an item in a chest shop as one item, but then have the shop give a different item.
- An example of this would be advertising Reputation Medallions, but actually be selling Warp Talismans.
¶ 3. Claim, Structure, and Griefing Rules
- 3.1. Griefing is not allowed.
- It is strictly not allowed to grief anywhere, this includes both claims and Wilderness.
Only the claim owner OR the builder of a structure can authorize the removal of a claimed structure.
Destruction during wars where destruction is allowed by the Terms of War does not count as griefing.
- Stealing does not count as griefing, so make sure any resources and valuables are protected inside a claim!
- 3.1.1. You are not allowed to destroy roads, rails, or ice tunnels.
- This includes things such as destroying bridges, block spam on roads, blocking off tunnels, etc.
- 3.1.2. Using lava and water to create large, obstructive structures is not allowed.
- You can use lava casting to quickly build walls around a base or fill in an area inside a wall.
- The walls do still need to be reasonably sized. For example, a 100 block tall wall would not be allowed to be built via lavacast.
- The walls should be in or just outside of a claim, and be built/allowed by the claim owner.
- 3.1.3. Extreme resource collection could potentially be counted as griefing based on staff discretion.
- Please be careful not to ruin the general landscape, and don't forget to replant trees!
- 3.1.4. Building floating roads or excessively tall bridges is not allowed.
- A very tall bridge over a ravine does not count as excessively tall.
- 3.1.5. Claiming an abandoned land is allowed after confirmation by staff is acquired stating the land is actually abandoned.
- 3.1.6. Permanent Map Art is not allowed.
- You can build map art temporarily to save on a map (you can lock maps in a cartography table), but the art must be removed in a timely fashion.
- If the art persists for too long, staff may remove the art and the builder may be punished.
- 3.2. Stealing Rules
- Stealing is the act of taking resources (such as crops or animals) or valuables (such as enchantment tables or resource blocks) from another player/land.
- 3.2.1. Stealing IS allowed outside of claims.
- 3.2.2. Stealing IS NOT allowed inside of claims.
- 3.3. Faction Server Tactic Rules
- Players are not allowed to create “faction base" style structures.
- 3.3.1. Building large walls out of gravity blocks is not allowed.
- 3.3.2. Bases that extend from bedrock to world height are not allowed.
- 3.3.3. Bases that use regen walls are not allowed.
- 3.3.4. Having a claim that is primarily underground is not allowed.
- You can have underground areas, but there must be a significant above ground presence as well.
- 3.4. Permanent bases only or primarily used for storage are not allowed and may be deleted.
- You can create outposts during war that have the primary purpose of storing items, however they must be deleted after the war ends.
- 3.5. Structures must be attached to the ground unless they have a believable reason to not be (for example, a hot air balloon).
- 3.6. Inappropriate builds are not allowed.
- This includes things such as (but is not limited to) NSFW content, or symbols of extremist groups.
- 3.7. Redstone and Farm Rules
- 3.7.1. Any type of fully automatic farms are not allowed.
- A fully automatic farm is a farm that produces resources with no player interaction.
- 3.7.2. Hostile mob farms are not allowed.
- 3.7.3. Large scale flying machines are not allowed.
- If you have a farm with lots of small flying machines, the start of the flying machines must be staggered to have a limited number moving at once.
- 3.7.4. Any sort of unending redstone circle, such as a clock, is not allowed.
- 3.7.5. Any sort of lag machine is against the rules.
- 3.7.6. Try to have large scale farms be underground unless you can sufficiently decorate them.
- 3.7.7. Having a large amount of entities (such as armor stands, item frames, mobs, etc.) is not allowed.
- 3.7.8. You cannot have more than 2 mobs per block in a farm; let your cows wander a bit!
- 3.8. Enclosing another claim inside of a claim is not allowed.
- 3.9. You are not allowed to claim a chunk within 3 chunks of another claim.
- Any chunks that are currently claimed within 3 chunks of another claim are exempt from this.
- 3.10. Empire warp points
- 3.10.1. Empire warp points must have a clear, easy exit and are not allowed to be trapped.
- 3.10.2. You are not allowed to modify the structure provided by staff, but can build an extra structure around the warp.
- 3.10.3. Warp points should be accessible to all players.
- Note: If a warp point is destroyed it will not be replaced without a new payment.
- 1.11. Lands and Nations cannot be named after or similarly to real life places.
- All messages sent in chat must follow everything defined in section 1.
- 4.1. Advertising non-Santoria related things is not allowed.
- You CAN advertise your land/nation/shop.
- You CANNOT advertise your YouTube channel/personal Discord/other non-Santoria related things.
- 4.2. Only communicate in English.
- Santoria is an English-speaking community, so we require everyone to speak English so that everyone is able to understand each other.
- If you meet someone who is having difficulties with English, be respectful and help them out!
- 4.3. Spamming is not allowed.
- Spamming includes, but is not limited to:
- Sending large blocks of text.
- Repeatedly sending the same/similar message.
- Repeatedly sending random/nonsensical messages.
- 4.4. Do not threaten to doxx or DDoS another player.
- Any messages stating that you are going to doxx and/or DDoS another player will be taken seriously and result in punishment.
- Sending something that looks similar to an IP (i.e. XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX), especially when it's in relation to another player, may violate this rule.
- 4.5. Do not ask for staff ranks.
- We put a lot of thought and consideration into protecting our community. That attention extends to the moderators we trust to look after the community.
Asking for staff will not get you a staff rank, and could potentially lead to punishment.
Admin ranks are reserved for highly trusted members of staff that actively work on administrating the server. Moderators and helpers are chosen via staff app.
Note: There is a filter that may block some words and phrases; Even if the filter prevents you from writing something that violates the rules, it will still be treated by staff as if it had succeeded.
- 5.1. Real life money trades are not allowed.
- Selling or buying anything on the server from other players using real life money is strictly prohibited.
If you use real life money for something on Santoria, there is nothing we can do if the transaction ends up being a scam.
- 5.2. Illegal clients or modifications are not allowed.
- Using a client or modification (mod) that provides a distinct, gameplay-changing advantage is strictly prohibited.
This includes anything that affects your mouse's click functionality.
- To make sure you are using allowed modifications, make sure you check the list of allowed/blacklisted modifications, or ask if they are allowed if the modification is not listed there.
A general rule of thumb is that if the mod allows you to get info you can't normally have, or gives you some other sort of advantage, it's probably not allowed.
- 5.3. The staff team reserves the right to use their own judgment regardless of any rule.
- This is mainly to prevent loopholes, but can also be used to enforce common sense, missed rules.
- 5.4. Evading punishments, neglecting to report a member for evading punishments, or helping another member avoid a punishment is strictly prohibited.
- 5.5. Impersonating other people is not allowed.
- This rule applies whether or not that other player has a presence on Santoria.
- Attempting to trick other community members into believing you are a staff member, content creator, or different member of the community is not allowed.
- 5.6. Alternate accounts are not allowed.
- You are only allowed to use a singular account (your “main”) to play on Santoria unless you get explicit staff approval.
- 5.7. Keeping a wither alive as a “pet”, to display something using the bossbar, or to keep it locked away is not allowed.
- 5.8. Blackmailing other players is not allowed.
- An example of this would be holding onto evidence of a rule break to use against another player if they don't do what you want.
- 5.9. Using Exploits is not allowed.
- Exploits are anything that is in the game but clearly not an intended feature, such as dupe glitches.
- 5.10. AFKing is not allowed.
